Health Benefits from Drinking Oolong Tea

Oolong tea is a one of the most popular teas that has long been known to Chinese. Like what the word oolong means, which is read as “wu long”, it looks like the black dragon. The leaf is long and curly.  This tea is being commonly served to Chinese restaurants. Chinese are very conscious of their diets and has traditional lifestyles especially with what they eat and drink. They are also known to using organic medicines instead of the modern ones. They consider their teas as a big part of the Chinese medicines. There are two explanations as to why Chinese strongly believe on the benefits that oolong plant contains.

First would be the Chinese tales about the plant’s history. It is mainly associated by who discovered the tea. Since Chinese are known to be tea lovers, when they are out in the mountains, they are always looking for plants that can be made as teas. Bases on the old stories, it has been discovered by 3 different people at 3 different occasions. All of them were attracted by the resemblance of the plant to the known Black Dragon tea. Aside from dragon like leaves, It has a sweet after taste and very gentle to the stomach. Regular drinkers felt relaxed after a cup of tea. With highly prized oolong tea, you can brew at most five times. Its taste improves and is best on the last brewing sessions.

Scientifically, there have been studies conducted to determine the effects of the tea leaves to the health. Like what the other teas do, it has been believed to aid in weight loss and prevention of obesity. To some, it is already known as a slimming tea. It has been found to contain caffeine that is an active component in the distractions of fatty acids in our body. It also contains polyphenol which is effective in controlling the fats in the human body. This component makes the enzyme that is responsible in dissolving bad cholesterol to work.  Like any other teas, it helps in enhancing our metabolism to make it work faster as not to store excess fats. To regular drinkers, it prevents diabetes since it helps in reduces unwanted sugars. The tea extracts slows down the development of the tooth decay causing bacteria called streptococci. It has anti oxidants that prevent the early show of unwanted age signs such as wrinkles, dark spots, fine lines, some illness or even cancers. It is good to the heart since it helps in controlling bad cholesterol in our system. Some studies show that it can help in the treatment of certain skin diseases such as eczema.

Like what doctors often say, prevention is better that cure. Some dietitians say that the health benefits from drinking oolong tea can also be taken from other ordinary teas. Well it is true though, but since this specie of tea is very rare especially outside of the Chinese community only few studies were conducted so far. Chinese believe that drinking oolong tea for a very long time will keep them away from illnesses and being obese. Obese means not just by being fat. It burns and absorbs fats. It means that you have accumulated too much fat in your body. It just proves that Chinese are more patient when it comes to taking care of health. Proven by its long time drinkers, the Chinese people, even before scientific studies were conducted, there are really a lot of health benefits from drinking oolong tea.
